Friday morning tradition
Breakfast is served at 9:00 a.m. each Friday morning. After breakfast, the brethren adjourn to the lodge room. The session begins with practical business—scheduling meetings, confirming the calendar, and coordinating upcoming Lodge work—then turns to practice on a selected portion of the ritual.
The format is deliberately practical. Members work on the material together, experienced certificate holders help reinforce the authorized work, and the group can concentrate on an opening, closing, degree, lecture, question-and-answer proficiency, Lodge of Sorrow, or another appropriate part of the ritual.
What the certificates mean
Grand Lodge of Texas law addresses these certificates in Articles 132 and 132a. Article 132 authorizes the Committee on Work to issue certificates to brethren it deems qualified to instruct in the esoteric work and lectures. Article 132a defines three classifications:
Proficiency in the questions and answers of the three degrees; opening and closing in each degree; a Master Mason's Lodge of Sorrow; and the Tiler's Oath.
Everything required for Class C, plus proficiency in conferring the three degrees.
Everything required for Classes C and B, plus the lectures of the three degrees.
This makes an A certificate the broadest of the three classifications. The Lodge's concentration of A certificate holders is one reason its Friday school can cover a wide range of ritual work without depending on a single instructor.
